Spring is springing!
Yesterday, my boyfriend and I went for a walk at the Wolf Lake Fish Hatchery out towards Mattawan. It’s quickly becoming one of my favorite places to experience nature. The hatchery has a series of ponds for fish rearing. You can feed the fish in the first pond, which is really fun for me as I really enjoy feeding animals. (Give me some cracked corn and I will feed ducks for hours! YES, I’m a five year old at heart!)
Besides fish, this hatchery brings in TONS of waterfowl and other birds. Any place that has a lot of water naturally brings in a lot of creatures. There were trumpeter swans, geese, ducks, a few unidentified species and birds in FULL-ON spring excitement mode.
It’s in places like this that we get to experience the resilience of Nature. It’s easy to forget in the city that the season is in fact, changing. Beyond the dirty sidewalks of Kalamazoo there are trees full of songbirds and flowers pushing through the ground.
Spring signifies hope. All you have to do is look to nature to see that warmer days are ahead. Don’t forget to take some time to look around and see that spring has sprung!
